Sarawak gets tail-end of typhoon Ramasun

Article by the Star as Reported by Stephen Then,

MIRI: The freak storm that uprooted giant trees, blew off rooftops, bent metal signboards and left a trail of destruction in its path in northern Sarawak was caused by the "tail" of typhoon Ramasun that raged near the Philippines.
The Sarawak Meteorological Department on Wednesday said this tail-end of the typhoon is expected to linger around in the northern Borneo region, especially Miri and Limbang, until Saturday.

"The northern half of the state is feeling the effect of the tail-end of the typhoon. The typhoon carries very strong winds and creates very high waves.
"The wind is more than 50km per hour and the waves at least 4.5m in the South China Sea. We have issued warnings against travelling by small boats in the South China Sea offshore northern Borneo until Saturday at least," said the department.

Wednesday morning saw frantic efforts by people affected by the sudden freak storm to clean up and repair their homes. Many houses were affected, especially in the Tudan resettlement scheme and in the Piasau Malay kampung, while trees weighing tonnes along the Miri-Lutong highway and Pujut highway were uprooted. The Fire and Rescue Department received more than 40 reports of incidents related to the storm, but there were no major injuries.

Some pictures of the aftermath coming soon.
